Dropbox is seriously awesome. It is so simple to use and creates an easy-access point for anyone who needs to back up their computer files or simply wants to sync their data between two or more computers (laptops, macbooks, pc’s, servers).
If you haven’t checked out Dropbox yet then you simply must do so immediately. You get 2GB of file storage on a cloud server, completely free of charge. This is plenty for storing small images, word documents, pdf’s, roboform data, ebooks etc.
Cloud computing is the way of the future and already many computer savvy youngsters and Internet users are jumping on the cloud bandwagon thanks to amazing service providers such as Dropbox, which offers a completely free introductory step into the world of cloud computing, whilst also providing a highly useful backup service, which lets face it, every single one of us could make use of at some point or other.
So why not go and get your first taste of cloud computing today. There are really easy to follow instructional videos, but altogether the Dropbox process is super-simple to get the hang of. Basically you sign up, you get a little folder on your computer called ‘Dropbox’ and anything you put into that folder is instantly added to your Dropbox account online. As long as you remember your login details to your online Dropbox account then you will be able to access the files you have stored within your dropbox folder, from any computer in the world that you choose.
For someone like me who uses Roboform more often than my mobile phone, it is vital that I keep an up-to-date backup of all my roboform files. I use dropbox to backup my Roboform Default data folder at least once per week. I just copy all my Roboform default files into dropbox and overwrite the previous week’s data and passcards. This means if anything bad happened to my PC, I would still be able to access my recent Roboform data from online. It also means if I am out and about and forget my password to a particular site, I can login to dropbox and retrieve my passcard through the roboform default folder in my dropbox folder.
Dropbox also allows you to share files within your dropbox folder. This is really useful if you have a file which is too big for email and you want to send it to a friend. Just drop it into the ‘public’ folder within your dropbox folder on your desktop. Then right click on it and copy the public link. You then give this link to your friend and they can automatically download the file you want them to have.
